One day I could find myself welding, machining, polishing plastic, or cutting fabric! The variety is endless…

My role as a Lead Technician enables me to oversee the build process from design to install & the challenge this provides is something I very much enjoy.

My name is Dean Hayton & I am the Lead Interactive Technician at Unusual Projects. I am primarily workshop based in Elvington, York.

Myself & my team have worked together for around 6 years in the museum, theme park & fit out industry. As former mechanical engineers & fabricators we pride ourselves to build & install our exhibits to a very high standard. We are also a very good friends outside of our working day. We have an in depth understanding of each other’s strengths & versatilities which in turn makes us a productive team.

A finished install gives me a great deal of satisfaction – seeing a written brief become a working exhibit enjoyed by people of all ages.

We have completed many fantastic projects to date & I have to say I have enjoyed them all. One standout project must be the Dark Skies Visitor Centre we completed for one of our clients in Scotland. A former school situated in the beautiful village of Kirkcudbright; the combination of a historic building filled with our interactive exhibits made it something very special indeed.

We have undertaken projects in many weird & wonderful places which means my job is not just workshop based. I have been fortunate to visit so many places in the UK & around the world. One of my favourites must be HMS Belfast, closely followed by Silverstone Racing Circuit. As a keen motorcyclist & WW2 geek you can understand why.

Here at Unusual Projects, we encourage the client to play a large part in their project. We warmly welcome client visits to see the progress we are making & test prototypes where possible. We also welcome focused visits to ensure the clients are getting exactly the products their imagination set out to achieve. We pride ourselves on delivering quality well-built functional fun interactives.

We hope to see you soon!
