Sokol Suits Atrium Display
Client: National STEM Learning Centre
Scope: Scenic
We worked with ESERO UK and the National STEM Learning Centre at their centre in York to display replica Sokol space suits donated by the UK Space Agency, in microgravity poses with props three storeys high in the central atrium.
We constructed an aluminium box section frame armature with designed poses with built in fixing points for the suits and the suspension wires, the suits were padded with fire retardant fillings to form the shape of astronauts. Unusual Projects undertook the installation of these works, luckily we have a head for heights.
“We approached Unusual Projects to ask if it was possible to install two replica Sokol space suits in microgravity poses above our atrium gallery. The answer was yes, and since the beginning of the project the whole team have been fantastic and supported us throughout the process. Nothing was ever too much trouble and we have been really impressed with how flexible and helpful everyone has been, allowing us to bring our display idea to fruition.”
