The D-Day Story

Client: Workhaus

Scope: Design and Build of Tactile Models

Workhaus were appointed as the Fit Out contractor for the Landing Craft, Tank (LCT) 7074, the last remaining survivor of its kind. LCT 7074 carried 10 tanks to Normandy on D Day. The tanks belonged to 7th Armoured Division and went ashore in France on 7 June 1944.

We were commissioned by Workhaus to produce replica models to help visitors orientate themselves, understand the scale of the vehicles and also facilitate access for visitors with visual impairments. The models we produced were a tactile model of the LCT itself, a Sherman Tank Model and a Churchill Tank Model.

The models were produced by customizing ‘off the shelf models’, moulding these and then producing in a spray bronze finish to create the look and feel of real bronze models.
