Workshop manager
Unusual Projects undertake a wide range of bespoke, creative projects predominately in the museums, heritage, science centre and arts sector. The position requires a minimum of 5 years experience within a similar role and market. Our Workshop Manager needs to be methodical, well organised with excellent communication skills and expert knowledge of manufacturing materials, able to manage a team and take responsibility for project delivery and Company health & safety, have high quality standards and liaise with designers and other contractors to ensure coordination of works. As Workshop Manager you will be responsible of overseeing works across all production including Joinery, Interactives, Electronics and Modelmaking.
In your role as Workshop Manager you will, in no particular order:
Report and provide support to the Board.
Be an proactive member of the Senior Management Team
Work to the hours and programmes supplied by the Project Manager
Meet with the design and technical team to contribute and understand fully the brief, client requirements and the designers intent
Identify and report to the Project Manager areas of change throughout the project which may affect costs and programme
Be responsible for and ensure all exhibits meet Unusual Projects high quality standards
Undertake the scheduling of all production and installation works and team members and report any issues or concerns
Resource planning, both full time and freelance
Estimating new projects
Promote a great Health & Safety culture.
Monitor staff timesheet and authorise
Ensure the correct provision and maintenance of machines and equipment to meet production schedules
Responsibility to ensure all production personnel are appropriately qualified /trained in health and safety and job skill requirements
Ensure specification compliance of all build items
Ensure the housekeeping standards are maintained and that waste is controlled and disposed of properly
Lead production meetings and update Project Managers on progress
Participate in post project reviews
As Workshop Manager with Unusual Projects you will need:
IOSH Managing Safely
Proven Management experience, 3 years or more
Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
Represent Unusual projects at client and site meetings
Ability to undertake occasional site work both in the UK and Abroad
Ability to read detailed drawings and plans
A good knowledge of IT and organisational skills including Excel & Office.
Respect confidentiality
A good understanding of Joinery, Electronics & Engineering
Manage and motivate your team
The ability to solve problems and make decisions using your own initiative
Be efficient, detail and quality minded, hardworking, flexible and responsible with a positive working attitude
Be a team player – support all departments in a collaborative manner
Ability to work to programme and deadlines
A full UK driving licence
Working Hours
0830 – 1730 Monday to Friday (40 pw)
Core Hours 0900 – 1600
Breaks 1030 & 1500 Paid (15 mins)
1230 Unpaid (30 mins)

Year One – 22 Days
Year Two – 25 Days (After one full year of service)
Year Five – 28 Days (After five full years of service)
