Christmas Opera Box

Client: HRP Kensington Palace

Scope: Theming and Props

Based upon the future Queens experiences Christmas trips to the opera and theatre we created a three-dimensional opera box to evoke the Christmases that unfolded in the life and imagination of the future Queen Victoria, at Kensington Palace and beyond.

We were briefed to design and build a visually unique Christmas experience that is visually unique which demonstrated the look and feel of Christmas in the 1830s and in keeping with the historic palaces character.

Our team of experienced designers worked alongside a visual artist to create a vision inspired by Benjamin Pollock, a publisher of Victorian toy theatres.

Young Victoria loved the theatre. ‘I was very much amused’, she wrote in 1833, after watching a memorable Christmas play. We’ve really enjoyed working with Unusual Projects to conjure up the theatrical spirit of her childhood Christmases at Kensington Palace and we hope our visitors, like the young princess, will be very much amused.
