Churchill war rooms

private office replicas

Client: IWm Churchill war rooms

Scope: replicas

During the Second World War, basement rooms in a government building in Whitehall served as the centre of Britain’s war effort. The complex, known then as the Cabinet War Room, was occupied by leading government ministers, military strategists, and Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

The IWM team have been busy transforming a previously closed office for the private tour experience. Guests can now explore historical objects including facsimile maps, personal clothing and books.

We were commissioned to make a fully operating radio, microphone and “scrambler” phone which included the ability for guests to record their own broadcast, which then replays from the radio.

Many people do not realise that Churchill owned one of the very first "onesies" so popular today! Back then it was called a “siren suit". We created a series of replicas plus slippers in a variety of sizes for guests to try on.
