‘Life on the home front’ uniforms

Client: imperial war museum

Scope: replicas

Collaborating with the Exhibitions Team at Imperial War Museum London on this project was an absolute delight as we worked together to create replica 'try on' uniforms for the captivating 'Life on the Home Front' display within the First World War permanent gallery.

To safeguard these valuable replicas, we discreetly tethered them to the wall, ensuring their protection against theft. Understanding the importance of safety and durability, we meticulously selected fire retardant materials that can withstand the high volume of visitors who eagerly engage with this immensely popular section of the gallery. Our team provided regular samples throughout the production process, enabling the Exhibitions Team to make informed decisions.

Striking the delicate balance between historical accuracy and ensuring the replicas' longevity has been a thoughtful endeavor, and we take pride in the outcome of our collaboration.

We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Unusual Projects for this project. Unusual Projects understood that the uniforms had to be incredibly durable, comply with conservation standards and be of a high quality, while maintaining as much authenticity as possible to make for a great visitor interaction; we were in very safe hands. Thank you to the team for delivering this on time and on budget, and for being lovely to work with - we look forward to the next project.
