Kirkcudbright Dark Space Planetarium

dark skies

Client: Kirkcudbright Development Trust

Scope: Interactive exhibits and models

Galloway Forest Park is one of the darkest places in the UK and has been awarded a Dark Sky Park designation, one of only four in the western world. Kirkcudbright Development Trust secured funding to develop the Johnston Primary School into a Dark Sky Visitor Centre open to the public promoting the park and all things astronomical. The Trust worked in partnership with the Dark Skies organisation to create a unique, educational and diverse venue which will encompass the magic of the Dark Skies and deliver an educational outlet.

Unusual Projects very much enjoyed working alongside Glasgow Science Centre, who were appointed by KDT to work in partnership to develop the visitor experience as well as the team at the Trust, it has truly been a collaborative experience.

Our exhibits include creating the northern lights, constellation viewers, astronaut gloves, rocket launcher and a baked bean gravity experiment which demonstrates the gravitational pull of objects on different planets.
